@melisandre : un perso francais qui habite a l’etranger, peut etre avec un ami bilingue joue par un autre joueur qui peut t’aider sans tomber hors-role?mai 1, 2017 à 1:31 #197984
Conrad’s second language was French (he learned it as a child); his third language was English. He even claimed that he wished he had written Heart of Darkness in French.
Strindberg’s French would also be better than his English.
Could everyone let me know which characters they want to play so I can put them together?
@nofare: Could you forward me your address or let me know where we’re meeting up? Thanksmai 1, 2017 à 1:42 #197986
I’ll take Conrad, please.
I’m going to email everybody the address via Private Message.
For now, just know that I’m located near the Queen’s Park tube stop, on the Bakerloo line.

@robertyates Do you have a definite list, or can we pick any 1890 character that might tickle our fancy?mai 1, 2017 à 4:28 #197988
@torlyn You can pick any 1890s character.
I was thinking of running a scenario entitled « Slow Boat », as it appeals to my sense of the bizarre to have Joseph Conrad and his associates investigating strange goings-on while travelling around England on a canal boat into the heart of darkness.mai 1, 2017 à 5:08 #197989mai 1, 2017 à 5:30 #197990
Yes, except I was thinking of setting in 1893, so he would be 35.
What skills do you think he should have? I’m thinking:
Law, History, French, German, Rifle, Handgun, Oratory, Debate, Ride, Zoology, Botany.
He would also have high Strength, Size, Dexterity and Power.mai 1, 2017 à 7:33 #197991
Yeah, sounds quite right to memai 2, 2017 à 9:57 #197993mai 2, 2017 à 10:43 #197994
As it will be my first english spoken game I think that I might want to play some stranger or french related as well as Melisandre.
Robert, I do not have much ideas yet to be honest I was thinking to Lucien Chamuel who has founded in 1884 the Library du Merveilleux (an occultist editor); we could argue that his job as occult book seeker requests that he speaks english? what do you think? If that does not work, I know I would certainly trust your jugement so I would be happy with any suggestions you may have.
Let me knowmai 2, 2017 à 11:03 #197995
I really like all these character ideas.mai 2, 2017 à 4:55 #197997
@centnoms Yes, we need an occultist. Do you know what year Lucien Chamuel was born; and which skills he would have apart from Occult and Library Use? I see he studied Law. Maybe give him some History as well?mai 3, 2017 à 10:53 #198010
regarding he age, some source says he was older that Paul Sedir (1871 – 1916) I would say that in 1893 he would be around 30 years old.mai 3, 2017 à 3:50 #198023
OK. I have put together character sheets for Conrad, Roosevelt and Chamuel.mai 4, 2017 à 9:06 #198041
@Robert Y I was more thinking of a journalist or a photograph, which would justify why the character would travel and be a foreigner, driven in wherever we will play for profesionnal reasons? After all you’d be playing well-known characters.
Taking pictures of the expedition to immortalize it (or not).
Eugene Atget maybe ? http://www.atgetphotography.com/The-Photographers/Eugene-Atget.html
He was a sailor, then an actor, before becoming a photographer.
